I don't update very regularly. Usually if I think my BBS is running stable, I don't update for a while, unless there's a new fix or feature I see in the commit logs.

When there's a significant change in CVS, eventually I'll update my BBS to keep
my system up to date with those changes so I don't fall too far behind.

When a new official release comes out, I always update to those.

Yes. I generally do it about every two weeks. Sometimes a little
more often if I see juicy tidbits in the commit/changelogs via the
    DoveNet echo area(s).

Okay. I just see there's usually 2-3 minor things a week. I guess I'll just wing it and do every three months, unless it's a significant change.

Yup, my old frankenstien 386SX with 4 megs of RAM and a 100 meg HD, ... jk, but that's what I ran my 1st SBBS board on it, and, it had a Sound Blaster sound card that had scripts for Dr.Sbaitso; my first talking computer. LOL

I was curious about the frequency of the updates.

It really depends on your priorities and concerns. Sometimes the newest code is
not the best code as a new bug or regression might've been introduced. Of course, we rely on sysops (and their users) to test the features so we know when there's a bug and try to act quickly to fix them.

If stability is your highest priority, then I'd say wait for a lull between cvs-commits (of .c of .cpp files), as those are probably the periods of highest
reliability. When there are frequent and daily commits, all related to the same
feature/change-set, that's a good indication that things might not be settled and you may experience a new bug or two if you update during those periods of high activity - which is fine so long as you understand the risk and are prepared to report bugs.

You can decide the appropriate frequency for yourself and your BBS. Sometimes it might be a matter of "if it's not broken, don't fix it", but you might also want the latest features & fixes more often. One thing I keep in mind is that the daily builds represent Synchronet in a state of change, and sometimes there
are bugs that crop up in the daily builds. So you basically update at your own
risk. Most of the time it's fairly stable though. I like to keep a backup of my last binaries that were working well though, so if something isn't working right after an update, I can revert back to my known-good binaries that I've kept.

Those were the days.. I had a PC with about the same configuration at one point, a 386SX-16 with (I think) 4MB RAM and a Sound Blaster Pro sound card (later upgraded to a Sound Blaster 16). I liked Dr. Sbaitso, and their general
text-to-speech program too (which let you type anything and it would speak it; I think it could also read text files). I also liked the demos that their sound cards used to come with. These days, you tend not to get extras like that because sound hardware is pretty much universal these days and there isn't
    really anything 'special' about it.
