Is this a typo or is it legal to specify multiple class names for an HTML class
    attribute ("alert" *and* "alert-danger")?

Yes, multiple classes are allowed, and quite common with bootstrap. In this case 'alert' contains the generic styling that applies to all alerts (ie adding
a border with rounded corners), and then 'alert-*' contains styling related to colours (making the alert red in the case of danger)

Sorry about that, forgot to allow port 25 on the new instance I just setup, so I wasn't getting notifications!
