Jim,
Its okay. I find it an entertaining game when I am monitoring my BBS, when I continually watch these "bots" or "bot-nets" assume my BBS is
some sort of smart-tv or whatever and try logging into it by putting "Enable" as the login.
Filter-IP Address? Yes!
Disallow this IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx from connecting? Yes!
Close Socket? Yes!!
Buh-Bye!!
Steve Winn, current developer of Virtual Advanced has a CAPTCHA string
of 6 random numbers that a connect has to enter before they can even get
to a logon prompt. If they fail, their IP is BLOCKED from reconnecting to
the BBS for x number of seconds (mine is set for 24 hours) <evil laugh!>.
NEXT VICTIM? My ip.can file is enormous! I know most of them are
probably faking their ip's but it's still fun none the less.
I have a similar trashcan file. My original BBS software, GT Power,
and its author, Paul Meiners, noted in the documentation of the
TRASHCAN.BBS file in the documentation, "This file will test your
creativity" <GRIN!>. <G>
Unfortunately, one (now former) Visiting Sysop (I use the term
loosely) wanted people to give their data when they logged onto his
BBS, but he would not do likewise when it was the other way around.
What callers do outside the BBS is THEIR BUSINESS, but they're a GUEST
IN MY HOME at logon.
Period...end of discussion.
To me, in this day and age, if you let a total, unknown stranger into
your home...you have a death wish.
