Have been loving the Xubuntu install, took a little getting used to after using diffrent flavors, and mainly kde/plasma. But I'm loving XFCE, it is it's own little X environment, has been a little learning curb for some things, but now that I have it configured to my liking, it's just sweet!

I have been using XFCE for years now when it comes to needing a GUI in Linux. It has been my #1 choice in the desktop enviornment because of it being lightweight and customizable. I never really did any theming with it but there two themes that I liked: Numix and Greybird.

I tried other desktop environments. Not sure where GNOME is going now-a-days, looks too much like iOS. MATE doesn't look very modern, to me. Cinnamon looks too Mac OSXish. KDE/Plasma is just way too heavy for my taste, and not a fan of LXDE. Unity is too heavy as well, not a fan of requiring a 3D accelerator in just doing day-to-day tasks.

Currently, I am using XFCE on Antergos (Arch Linux based) and I like the Numix theme it comes with and the Arch Linux philosophy. I was never a fan of Ubuntu's ecosystem and out-dated software.

NOw that is one thing that I am NOT liking, some of the software, like the Xubuntu distro had 4 different system updaters already installed, and neither one of them keep correct upates of the software that is installed, I'm truly thinking of going with another distro, but keeping XFCE, I love it. I run it wothout any theming, it has always ran so smooth, despite the flaws ubuntu has put into the distro.

I myself am a GNOME user but I thinki if I were to go lightweight I may go XFCE or LXDE maybe.

As a computer programmer I think I'd recommend Fedora. It is just the best - nothing beats it. It has updates developed almost everyday and is great.

I've had a special place in my heart for Linux all the time, sooner or later I will be transitioning my BBS over to it, I just need time to gain back some of the knowledge I lost when I was'nt using it :-)
