I'd like to understand the state of Fidonet.org, it sounds like there are
some changes coming?

The "Active Nodes" link looks like it belongs to an expired domain, it
lands on a parking page.

The Fidonews link is stale, the issues on Fidonews.org appear to have
stopped sometime around 2010.

The Zone 1 link goes to Janis' site, I don't know if she's planning on
handing the management of the Z1 page to Nick.

I'd love to have a site with relevant information to point prospective
sysops to, as there's been quite a bit of interest from new callers lately.

Yes ... the domain has just been renewed for a next year through Feb.26 2020.

A short history ... Marco d'Itri saved the domain many many moons ago from expiring ... the "how" and "why" and "whatfor" etc is water on the bridge. Not very much happened to it.

Marco has had low Fido-interest/presence for quite some time and I have requested help. Joacim Melin stepped forward, we talked and I think he is up to
the challenge.

The domain should have been moved already but as with many things today people have lives and sometimes events happen which require a higher priority. So it was with fidonet.org and suddenly I was faced with an urgent renewal. Wasted a bit of money but with the expiration date on tomorrow, saving the domain from expiring was the prioriy then.

As soon as the domain will be moved sometime this week or next week I guess a number of services will stop working, I will be refering everyone to Joacim, he
will also post updated webpages and perhaps other stuff.

Suggestions? Send them to Joacim, he's listed in the nodelist.

That's as far as my answer goes.

Really? The official fidonews site has been published in the Fidonews issue every week for many, many years now (and I keep on paying for it from my own wallet as well as doing my manual weekly update), and you still rely on a web page that's actually been defunct for more than ten years?

What I expect from anyone still connected to our historical network, is that
you at least can search the web properly for the actual facts.

I think you need to forgive Kurt, the info in the fidonet.org pages is incorrect and it is human-error to click on the fidonews-link on that page and then arrive at an irrelevant location.

To be honest, I have also gone to fidonews.org without transiting somewhere else only to arrive somewhere of which I figured "what the hell is this?"

I think the point Bj÷rn missed was that I'm considering the experience for someone looking to join or get information about Fidonet, googles "Fidonet"
and lands on the fidonet.org site.

Of course, I've got every FIDONEWS in my files section - if I want to
reference the 'news, I just go to that folder.
