• Error when disk full error occurs

From Amessyroom@VERT/TL-QWK to nightfall on Sat Dec 21 09:58:18 2024
Ran into an error with SlyEdit and Vim when I filled my main partition.

I've lost the exact error message. But may want to check space where the temporary file is written, and capture even and display relevant message
    and exit.

I see you addressed this message to "nightfall".. Did you mean to address this to me (since you mentioned SlyEdit)? If so, you also mentioned Vim, which is not something I maintain..

It sounds like the general issue is there wasn't enough space to save the message, particularly since you say you got an error both with SlyEdit and with Vim. And to save a message, SlyEdit ultimately calls one of Synchronet's JavaScript functions to save the message.

Did you mean to write this to "NightFox"? The auther of SlyEdit?
Yes. Rather than bothering him with direct netmail; thought I would use the echo for a general support item.

You "filled your main partition"? That wasn't a good idea.
Nope. It was filled with backups.

Or maybe keep an eye on your system, and don't fill up a partition.
Yep . Expected it to happen but have not put in a cron job to clean things automatically.

You sure make a lot of mistakes, that seem to be caused by not paying attention; and/or not bothering to read instructions properly.
I'm only human. Not perfect. I can see where you get that impression.

At least your nick/handle makes some sense.
Glad you find the nick applies.

Yes. I guess my attention to detail has failed me again. Yes. Nightfox not Nightfall
    :-(

I was just saying the vim editor also had same issue, but error was more obvious
"Couldn't write swap file". So I knew it was disk space or permission issue.

The error in SlyEdit was like a TypeError . Nothing that I could related to failure
    to writing the temp file.

It sounds like the general issue is there wasn't enough space to save the message, particularly since you say you got an error both with SlyEdit and with Vim. And to save a message, SlyEdit ultimately calls one of Synchronet's JavaScript functions to save the message.
Ok. I just thought maybe it could be caught and reported with a human error message, rather than a javascript type error.
