At Rural King I saw a Charles Daly semi auto that was cheaper than anythinh el se. Not sure who makes them, since but nowadays they're a brand name only that's owned by Chiappa in Italy. If I had to guess they're made by Akkar in Instanbul, Turkey. Chiappa has been importing their shotguns for awhile

Hmmm. I don't know. Mossberg for me. The 930 SPX is a little spendy and I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives out there. I wasn't looking to buy a semi shotgun when I stumbled upon it. I ended up walking out with two firearms that day. :)

Remington isn't what t used to be. After the Cerberus /Freedom holdings
buyout in 2007, they among the other brands purchased began to drop in quality.
Remington claims they did some major retooling in their New York plant as
well as their Alabama facility, however I haven't heard any newer reviews

Depends on how reliably and how often you want it to go bang. It's like
buying power tools. If you relied on your tools to make a living, would you buy a Makita or Milwaukee, or would you buy the cheapest item at Harbor Freight?

I don't see why not. I would definitely research a brand you are interested in buying first just to make sure.

I agree with the general idea, but on the other hand higher price does not automatically mean higher quality.

My father has one of those cop show Berettas, I think it is one of those worth 900-1000 USD. It is not bad but my father has more malfunctions during competitions than me with that one.

I have a "piece of junk" revolver from an obscure manufacturer that went bankrupt 30 years ago. The guy who sold it to me told me: "Its only good to put gypsy horse thieves on their knees and execute them point blank in the forest. If you hit anything at 25 meters with it you can consider yourself lucky". That thing costed me less than 200 bucks and only failed me once in a competition. The drum got stuck while reloading due to the heat so I had to close it by hitting it harder. I would not want to spend five seconds hitting the drum closed during a gunfight, but I am still getting better downtime that people with expensive guns.

Spend smart, not hard.

Price is not always a factor, however good engineering and good materials and proper heat treating go a long way. While I'm not a dealer or have an FFL, I do have access to manufacturer events held by wholesellers. There were some brands I wouldn't have touched due to their price range, however after
shooting several firearms by Barrett, Sig, CZ, STI, Salient and Thompson
Center to name a few, and talk to their sales people and engineers, I realize why some brands and models have popular appeal. When money is tight, you
have to pick and choose wisely. I'm trying to talk one of my dealer friends into having another range event. He has a couple of Taran Tactical STI
Combat Masters on order. The John Wick series is great for product
placement.

As stated, if you want to compete and run your gear hard and expect it to go bang, I'd choose a Benelli over a Mossberg or Remington. At least I didn't mention Salient's Benelli package. Feels strange handling a $3400 USD
shotgun, and told by the sales rep to not worry about hurting it.
